Parks Maintenance Specialist (Sports Turf) - Maintenance Dept. - 8109

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • 4 year degree, within related programs (i.e., Parks and Recreation, Agronomy, Agriculture), AND 5 years experience to include documented professional experience at an athletic complex, golf course, and/or as a contractor and/or installer of water systems and landscape irrigation systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • A Class D driver's license and good driving record. A CDL license preferred or ability to obtain within one year may be required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervising and performing duties related to Turfgrass Management and related activities of athletic complexes, various parks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Participates in Grounds and Turfgrass management: Grounds and Athletic complexes, with an emphasis on quality, safe playing surfaces of baseball, soccer, softball, cricket, football, and areas including parks buildings grounds, pavilions, restrooms, campsites, and other parks systems properties. Related uses of grounds hand/power tools and operation of equipment; repairs/adjustments to equipment and physical structures of grounds and facilities; sod, turf, and irrigation component repairs.

• Maintenance: Assigns or assists in necessary monitoring of repairs to grounds and athletic fields; repair and seasonal transitional needs related to event preparation, wear repair, and operation management of including irrigation systems within parks properties; Constructs new and repairs irrigation system equipment as necessary, monitors operation of irrigation systems; Fertilization management, related herbicide and pesticide management. • Supervision: provides task supervision to a crew of 5-12 employees, assigned construction and maintenance tasks involving grounds maintenance, irrigation and plumbing systems, & other duties as assigned. Supervises and trains members of a parks maintenance crew performing the duties of a parks maintenance worker. Ensures tasks assigned end results, changes the work assignments based on priorities, takes necessary steps to ensure quality performance and results.

• Administrative Duties: Develops and maintains various files for records, turfgrass management, water usage, irrigation, chemical applications, employee task work orders, and vehicle and equipment safety and operations maintenance logs, time and attendance sheets, employee training and tools issued. Ensure compliance with safety precautions. Monitors vehicles and equipment for the purpose of recommending purchases and replacement. Calculates needed expenses for operations and submits to Maintenance Superintendent. Maintains inventory of related supplies. Assists in event management of athletic complexes, coordinates needs of public organizations with functions of maintenance and preparation.

NOTE: A complete background check will be conducted on the persons selected for interview. The position is one which requires driving commercial vehicles; a D.O.T. drug test is required prior to employment. All offers of hire to City positions are conditioned on meeting drug test requirements and a job-related medical examination.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • A Class D driver's license and good driving record. • Associate degree within related programs of Parks and Recreation, Agronomy, or Agriculture (BS/BA preferred) and 1 year directly related work experience in turf grass management, grounds maintenance and supervision, including related equipment; OR • High school diploma and 3 years directly related experience in turf grass management, grounds maintenance and supervision, including related equipment.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and participates in the daily management of turf and grounds of athletic complexes including construction, repair, and maintenance activities of parks maintenance crews.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Participates in Grounds and Turfgrass management: Grounds and Athletic complexes, with an emphasis on quality, safe playing surfaces of baseball, soccer, softball, cricket, football, and areas including parks buildings grounds, pavilions, restrooms, campsites, and other parks systems properties. Crew Leader (Landscape)- Maintenance Dept. – 8116

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • A Class D driver's license and good driving record. • High school diploma or equivalent. • Possession of an Arkansas State Plant Board Restricted Pesticide Permit, Arkansas Certified Nurseryman or equivalent preferred. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and participates in the Landscaping management, new construction, repair, and maintenance activities of parks maintenance crews.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Grounds and Landscape Management: directs, and participates in daily work of crews performing landscape installation, maintenance and watering schedules; provides task supervision and monitoring of subordinates; mixes and measures chemicals for application; directs, monitors, or administers the application of pesticides and fertilizers; supervises the planting of large specimen trees; selects plants and plant materials; calculates amount of planting materials and manpower for tasks; ensures sufficient materials available to complete planned work. • Supervision: in cooperation with parks grounds maintenance crew, monitors and plans work schedules and makes daily work assignments; trains crews in correct equipment use and maintenance; Horticultural practices, herbicide and pesticide applications, monitors vehicle maintenance procedures; serves on interview panel as directed; provides information to subordinates on safety precautions, City, Parks Departmental & Parks Maintenance Divisional policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; informs employees of job performance expectations; counsels employees on problem areas, referring to supervisor when necessary or as directed; prepares incident reports; recommends evaluation appraisal ratings; addresses employee complaints and assists in resolving problems. • Administration/Record Keeping: prepares proposals for plant purchasing plans; sends out purchasing requisition forms; keeps records of purchasing requisition on chemicals, plants, equipment use, and maintenance; keeps time and attendance records.
